Mosquito Management
More Than A Nuisance
Mosquitoes can present dangerous health risks. In fact, they have been called the most dangerous creature on earth because of their role in the spread of disease. Though they prefer nectar from plants, female mosquitoes do bite people and animals in search of blood to nourish their eggs. In the process, they can spread possibly life-threatening infectious diseases, including West Nile virus. In 2012, there were more than 50 reported instances of people contracting the West Nile virus from mosquitoes, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Mosquitoes also spread malaria, yellow fever, dengue fever and encephalitis.
