Mosquito Control FAQs

Are mosquitoes in Pennsylvania dangerous?

Yes. While not every mosquito carries disease, it is possible to get a mosquito-borne illness in Pennsylvania. The most commonly transmitted mosquito-borne disease in Pennsylvania is West Nile virus, but there have also been reported cases of travel-associated illnesses such as Zika virus, malaria, Dengue fever, and Chikungunya.

Is it true that only female mosquitoes bite?

Again, yes. Both male and female mosquitoes feed primarily on nectar. However, in addition to nectar, female mosquitoes require a blood meal in order to breed and lay eggs.

The best way to save on mosquito control is to bundle your services. Moyer provides discounts based on the number of services you have with us. Not only do you get a great deal on pest control, but you also get the peace of mind of having a pest-free home.

After Moyer Pest Control treats my yard for mosquitoes, do I need to do anything?

Although nothing is required after a treatment, there are certain steps you can take to keep the mosquito population low in between treatments. Since mosquitoes can fly, there’s no way to completely eliminate them from your property. But, after a treatment from Moyer, it greatly decreases their population. The following tips can help keep them away:

  • Remove debris  from your yard
  • Cut back overgrown vegetation and landscape elements
  • Mow your lawn regularly
  • Clear your gutters of leaves and other organic matter and make sure downspouts point away from the structure
