If you have noticed a larger population of spring pests this year in PA, you are not alone! Mosquitoes, yellow jackets and other stinging insects love the warm weather as much as we do.

An early spring has bloomed this year and this means more time to enjoy the outdoors with cookouts, walks, hikes, and time spent with family and friends. Unfortunately the early arrival of spring has also brought with it some of our less than favorite warm weather pests. Insects such as mosquitoes and yellow jackets could quickly ruin a great moment outside. In order to protect your Pennsylvania home and property from the early arrival of spring pests, now is the time to start your pest treatment plans.

The buzzing sound of mosquitoes is enough to make most cringe. No one likes an outdoor event when mosquitoes are present. They seem to attack by the thousands and completely distract us from being able to enjoy the outdoors. Ever tried hosting a cookout that went horribly due to the guests being eaten alive? Mosquitoes are very hard to control, but there are a few things that PA homeowners can do to control the masses.

  • Remove water sources on your property. We all like to enjoy fountains and ponds, but they are ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

  • Consider a screened-in porch rather than a deck or patio if you live in a heavily wooded area.

  • Use insect repellent when necessary. If you have to be out in an area that is swarming with mosquitoes be sure to apply a repellent so you are not attacked.

Another early arrival this year is the yellow jacket. Although these stinging insects are great to help control the population of other insects, they can cause health risks for those allergic to their venom. Yellow jackets are considered a nuisance pest mostly, but it is important that if you do spot a nest on your property that you contact your local PA pest control company to remove it safely. Attempting to swat or knock down the nest on your own will result in some very aggressive yellow jackets.

No matter what pests are making an early arrival back this spring, you can combat them with an early implementation of your pest control services. Properties across the country are already being treated for pests that typically don’t arrive for another month. Instead of waiting until you are flooded with mosquitoes or stinging insects this year, contact Moyer Indoor | Outdoor to take care of all your pest control needs.
