Moyer 5K Runs Through Souderton
July 13, 2012
After earlier sweltering days, the second Wednesday in July was a little nicer this year.
Which made this year’s Moyer Indoor/Outdoor 5K Race, Kids’ Run and Fitness Walk more comfortable than the past few years have been.
“It was the 18th annual Moyer 5K and we had over 600 participants,” said Bob Williamson, Moyer Indoor/Outdoor general manager.
“It was seasonal. There was a nice little breeze at the end,” Williamson said. “The humidity wasn’t too high.”
“The proceeds of the event go towards scholarships for Souderton Area High School cross-country runners,” Williamson said. “Over $2,000 was raised.”
The first male finisher in this year’s 5K was Tyler Jones of Chalfont. The first female finisher was Alexis Flores of Harleysville.
There were 440 finishers in the 5K, with the rest of the 600 participants taking part in either the kids’ run or the fitness walk, Williamson said. The total number of participants this year was a new high, beating the previous record of 550, he said.
“In all the years, this was the most we ever had and it was a very well-run event,” Williamson said.
