Why Are Bed Bug Heat Treatments So Effective?
October 12, 2018
When you discover a bed bug infestation in your home or business, your first reaction may be one of panic. Similar to lice, just the thought of bed bugs can make you shudder and start feeling itchy all over. If you realize you actually have them in your home, the feeling only compounds and you know you need to act quickly to eradicate them as soon as possible. Unfortunately, bed bugs are notoriously difficult to get rid of. This is due to several factors.
- First, bed bugs can survive fairly cold temperatures (although they don’t like them), as well as very hot ones (up to 113 degrees).
- Second, over the years they have grown resistant to insecticides, making traditional chemical treatments ineffective.
- Third, they are very adept at hiding, so even if you treat all the areas where you think they are, it is very likely that you’ve missed some, giving them a chance for a comeback.
- Fourth, they can go for months without eating. If you miss some when you do a treatment, they can remain in hiding for quite some time before coming back out and re-infesting your home or business.
For all of these reasons, DIY treatments are never a good idea when it comes to bed bugs. Chemical treatments, even by the professionals, are often not the best bet either.
There is one treatment, however, that is extremely effective at eliminating every single bed bug in your home or office, even the ones that have gone deep into hiding.
Heat treatments are your best bet for bed bug infestations, especially now in the fall. Bed bugs are most active in the summer but remain active through autumn. Once winter hits, they’ll remain active, but are less likely to move from location to location. That means, if you discover bed bugs now, it’s best to get rid of them before they hunker down for the winter and start reproducing.
Why are heat treatments so effective? Because of the way they work.
Heat treatments heat your home to a temperature that bed bugs can’t survive. The treatment requires heating your home for several hours to ensure all bed bugs are dead, even the ones that are carefully hidden. No chemical treatment can do that.
Another great thing about heat treatments is that they are 100% safe for your family, your home, and your possessions. Since heat is the only source used, no harmful residue gets left behind for your family to come in contact with.
