Protect Your Home, And Your Family In 2015
January 15, 2015
There are some things you can do yourself; you just roll up your sleeves, find a tutorial, and get cracking. If you're like me, you're always looking to save a buck. For me though, in most cases, I find myself in worse condition than I would have been if I had hired a professional to take care of it. Now, you might be thinking that you know where I'm going with this. You're probably thinking I'm going to say, don't do that pest control yourself, get a professional. But you would be wrong. What I'd like to show you is that there are levels of protection. Some pest protection doesn't cost you a penny, but it takes more work. The other will cost you a little bit, but you don't have to lift a finger--well, most of your fingers. Allow me to explain.
What you can do.
If you own your home, there are some things you can do to protect yourself from pests. In fact, you need to protect yourself. Termites and carpenter ants can eat away your equity. Rats, mice, and cockroaches can fill your home with disease and sickness. And, a variety of pests can threaten your family with stings and bites.
The best way to protect your family is to seal your walls and make your home less welcoming to pests. If pests stop by, they will see that you have no food for them and move on to a home with better offerings. You can do this by keeping trash fully sealed, cleaning counters, rugs, and floors, deep cleaning the sides of your oven and under the refrigerator, putting dirty dishes in soapy water, rather than leave them in a stack on the counter, seal all your food in hard plastic containers, and follow strict measures that keep your home dry and well ventilated. There are hundreds of exclusion tips you can follow to keep the bugs, rodents, and other wildlife at bay, but it is a lot of work.
What only your pest control company can do.
When you partner with a pest management company, you don't have to deep clean as much. You don't have to worry if the dishes are stacked next to the sink. All those cleaning tips are only if you can't properly seal your walls. A pest management company knows how to seal entry points and apply a limited and focused amount of pesticide to more vulnerable areas. With this kind of protection, you don't have to have your guard up all the time. You don't have to clean and re-clean to keep the pests away. They never get through your walls in the first place. But complete protection costs some money. And that is where the rub is. So pest management companies help you find the right balance. If you want your wall 100% sealed, they can do it. If you can't afford to do that yet, they can help you get as sealed as you're able and show you what work you can do to complete your protection.
So, if you're a do-it-yourselfer, that's okay. You have a part to play. The only real question is: how much of a part do you want to play? Get plugged in to a pest management company today.
