Bed bugs are widespread across the United States, including in areas right here in Pennsylvania. They can be found anywhere, regardless of the sanitary conditions (or lack thereof), as they are just looking for their next feast. They could care less about how clean or how dirty a place is as long as it is a place that people frequent.

These tiny pests are parasites that feed on the blood of humans or other warm-blooded mammals. In some cases, the small bites from a bed bug can cause small, red, itchy welts that are extremely annoying; but, luckily, they are considered harmless. Bed bugs are, however, a nuisance and can reproduce rapidly. Bed bugs are extremely hardy and can live for many months without a blood meal (up to 7 months). Not only that, but they can also live through temperatures from just above freezing to around 110 degrees Fahrenheit (in some cases living semi-dormant for long periods of time) making people in any climate at risk for an infestation.

Adult bed bugs are flat, oval, reddish-brown, and can be up to 1/4 inch in length. They are pretty small, but if you look closely you will be able to find them. Needless to say a bed bug infestation can be very stressful and can damage the reputation of your business which, in turn, can cause you lost revenue. To find them, you will need to look for the bed bugs hiding in cushions, furniture, linens, baseboards, bed frames, mattress seams, and even behind picture frames. Oftentimes, bed bugs will travel on shoes, clothing, luggage, and bags used while traveling to homes and businesses creating a cycle of infestations. If you do find bed bugs, exoskeletons, blood spots, or small brown dots on your bed, clothes, or linens, you need to seek the help of an experienced pest control expert right away.
