Are Fleas Driving You Crazy?

This is one pest that can definitely leave you feeling flabbergasted. The internet is filled with do-it-yourself flea remedies and self-help flea products. But after you've tried all the sprays, used all the bombs, cleaned all your clothing and bedding, steam-cleaned all your rugs, and applied every possible product your pet will tolerate, you can still have fleas. These are pernicious pests. What's worse is the longer you delay calling a professional to eradicate these little blood eaters, the worse your flea problem can become.

Why are fleas such a pain to get rid of?

  • Fleas are hardwired to do three things: eat, reproduce, and survive; all of which they do with extreme efficiency.

  • Fleas are mobile. Their hind legs produce enough force to launch them 5 feet horizontally and as much as a foot vertically.

  • Fleas have a variety of places they can live and breed. They are as comfortable breeding in your grass as they are in a damp moist place inside your home.

  • Fleas breed like crazy. An adult female can lay roughly 20 eggs at a time and can produce over a thousand eggs in her lifetime.

  • Fleas have a long life cycle. A typical flea can live up to 1.5 years. That will give them plenty of time to make babies in, or around, your home.

  • Fleas are able to adapt to famine conditions in order to survive. An adult flea can survive two months on a single blood meal. If they sense danger, they can hide until the danger has passed.

  • Most chemicals only kill adult fleas. You can spray and bomb your house, only to have fleas show up a few months later in disturbing numbers.

  • The most disturbing fact of all is for every adult flea you see bouncing around or crawling in the fur of your pet, there are usually a minimum of 10 cocoons, 35 larvae, and 50 eggs hiding in your lawn or home. These are silent stalkers.

Fleas aren't only an irritation, they can be a health risk for you and your pets. Problems range from flea-allergic dermatitis to tapeworm in dogs and cats, and they can transmit diseases such as plague and murine typhus to humans. Don't take any chances with fleas. Professional pest control is immediate and effective.
